Ma Pau festival ends college b-ball

The Colleges Invitational Basketball Tournament (CIBT) came to an official end with the Ma Pau All Star Festival at the Maloney Indoor Sports Arena on Sunday. Featuring were matches between the Ma Pau All Star Festival Red and White teams and The Ma Pau Men’s All Star team against the Trinidad and Tobago Senior Women. In the first match the White team beat the Reds 72-65. Michael Frederick and Randy Greenidge both scored 14 and Bevon Julien and Javon Edwards had 10 each for the Whites.

Kerryn Seale scored a match-high 25 and Junior Gibbs sank 10 in a fighting performance out of the Red corner. The Red team included Keon Ramnath, Jevon Ford, Dominic Thomson, Elgin Ferris, Andre Trim, Melake Cudjoe, Javon Charles, Jared Sampson, Jeremy Soyer and Seon Singh. And the remaining White team players included competition organiser Dennis Taye Allen, Christopher James, Anderson Dyer, Karl Muckette, Kern George, Querido Nero, Marlon Saldenha and Jerome Providence. In the feature match on the evening the Ma Pau All Star Men’s team beat the National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago Senior Women’s team 70-51. Melissa Guerero scored a match-high 19 and Chezelle Griffith with 15 led the women in attack. But the performances of the joint female Most Valuable Players could not help them past Kern George with 16 and Men’s MVP Kerryn Seale and Randy Greenidge with 13 each.

Kamila Sobers, Latoya Lawson, Carole-Ann Granger, Affeisha Noel, Leslie-Ann Francois, Tanya Bruno, Akeisha Hyles, Corissa Blugh and Tasha Julien rounded off the Women’s Team line-up. Christopher James, Anderson Dyer, Bevon Julien, Karl Muckette, Dennis Taye Allen, Marlon Saldenha, Jerome Providence, Javon Edwards and Michael Frederick also played for the men. Queen’s Royal College were crowned the 2004 CIBT Champions for the third time on Friday and the three-point shootout and dunk-out competitions will be contested in the pre-season tournament which begins in November. Kerryn Seale was named Ma Pau All Star Festival Mens MVP and national players Melissa Guerero (UTC Maloney Pacers) and Chezelle Griffith (Courts Horizon) were named Co-MVPs of the Women’s Team at the end of the festival. The tournament was sponsored by MA Pau Recreation Club, Hi-Lytes Isotonic Sport Drink, Sport Line Clothing,  Malta Carib and Newsday Newspapers.
