‘400BCL’ Stand to honour Lara

The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board of Control (TTCBC) are to erect a pavilion on the southern end of the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in honour of new world record holder Brian Lara. The left-hander hit an unbeaten 400 against England on Monday in the Fourth Test match at the Antigua Recreation Ground to regain the record he lost to Australian Matthew Hayden last year. Lara broke Sir Gary Sobers’ standard of 365 in 1994 when he scored 375, but lost the record six months ago to Hayden who made 380 against Australia. Chief Executive Officer of the Cricket Board, Alloy Lequay gave details of the tribute to the son of the soil yesterday.

“We at the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board of Control (TTCBC) will be looking to erect a stand at the National Cricket Centre called ‘400BCL’ in honour of Brian reclaiming the record.” “This stand will not be for the patrons but for members of our national Under-13, Under-15 and Under-19 teams to sit in together with coaches to look at matches. “From there the coaches will be able to explain the rudiments of the game and the youngsters can have a cricketing education.” “We think this is a tangible way to honour the man for this great achievement. He has showed his class and has shown to all of us that he is really a great man.

I think the government of Trinidad and Tobago should find some way to use this great performance to the benefit of the youths in the country, all in an effort to eradicate the crime that has a hold of this country at the moment.” “As I have said before, sport can be used to help crime and used in the development of youths and this is a great opportunity for the government to step in and help the youths.” The West Indies skipper is due back home on Monday after the first One-Day International in Guyana on Sunday. A huge reception is expected at the Piarco International Airport for Lara’s homecoming.
