Success/Laventille win Hampton relay

SUCCESS/LAVENTILLE schoolgirls have won the 4x1 lap relay event around the Queen’s Park Savannah which launched this year’s 30th edition of the Hampton Games. The quartet comprised Venice Frederick, Samantha Shukla, Shermaine Lasaldo and Keema McShine, sister of Junior CARIFTA Games 3,000 metres gold medallist Pilar. The youthful quartet completed the distance in 58 minutes 40 seconds to take the winner’s prize of $500.


But a “scratch” team of Kern Glen, Denzil Ramiraz, Dame Cross and Neil Francois took the men category in 49 minutes and one second.  They too collected $500. Runners-up were the Memphis team of Deus Olliverre, Richard Jones, Jason Parris and Leron Hagley, who were 47 seconds slower than the winners for the $300 prize, while another unattached four of Peter Ragoonan, Curtis Johnson, Russell Cupid and Errol Thomas got the third prize money of $200.  They finished in 56 minutes 32 seconds. Aaron de Bourg, Seitu Joseph, Jevon Toppin and Alexander D’Abadie of Fatima College won the boys under-17 category and $500. Bajan Noel Husbands collected the $300 winners purse in the one-lap race walking for men in 20 minutes 30 seconds. 


He was followed home by Ricardo Baptiste (21:36) $200 and Dennis Ford Passee (23:01) $100. Marissa Gale out-walked her rivals in the women category completing the lap in 27 minutes 30 seconds for the $300 prize. Runner-up Elizabeth Norman (28:09) got $200 and third was Cheresse Joseph (28:25) $100.  Fourth was Nadine Daniel (29:37). Meanwhile, elimination heats for the games will be held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo from 9.30 am on Saturday and Sunday.
