Movietowne shows speed

HORSES continued to turn out in their regular numbers on the gallops course at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, over the past two days, but it was clear that trainers were concentrating on their juvenile crop while staying on easy street with their more seasoned runners. On Wednesday only about five seasoned runners did anything of note. Nobleman and Crackshot had a race to themselves over the last 1000 metres of the main course. The pair of lightly raced three-year-olds went a good clip from the start to finish and must have pleased trainer Patrick De Freitas with their clocking 1:02.46 seconds. Royal Red and Smooth Operator from trainer Harold Chadee barn has seperate workouts over the same distance.

Royal Red covered the same trip in 1:05.57 seconds with his more illustrious stable companion strutting his stuff in 1:04.74. Lady Honoree who hails from the same barn was sent further. The American-bred four-year-old maintained a steady clip over the 1600 metres course in 1:48.95 seconds. Movietowne Magic stole the show yesterday. This Glenn Mendez-trained colt whose career has been plagued by injury, showed that he has not lost his speed with a 50.85 seconds posting over 800 metres. Tranier Jack Debideen schooled Final Set and Silver Bullet from the boxes. The once-raced Final Set held the upperhand against the unraced brother of Napoleon over 400 metres in 24.94 seconds.
