Jabloteh, Horizon in thrilling netball tie

SAN JUAN Jabloteh and Horizon played to a thrilling 23-23 tie as action in the Phillis Pierre-Walker Intermediate Division One of the Port-of-Spain Netball League continued at the Lystra Lewis Courts, Princes Building. Horizon were in front in Thursday’s match 6-4 at the end of the first period, but the Jabloteh girls held a 13-12 edge at half time and kept their advantage 18-17 at the end of the third stanza.


Then it was netball at its best as the teams attacked and countered in their attempt to gain victory, but when the final whistle came, they were all square. Melinda Young scored 12 goals from 17 attempts and Kimberly Charles had 11 of 12 for Jabloteh. K’Lene Lewis got 18 of 26 attempts and Sherry Thomas sank five of eight for Horizon.


In another match in the same division, Sparkles came from trailing Ebony 6-4; 13-11 to level at the end of the third quarter 18-18 and then went on to win 24-20. Malana Edwards scored 12 of 17 attempts and Asha McDowell 12 of 18 for the winners, while Michelle Olive got 10 of 16 and Lizann Cummings 10 of 12 for Ebony.
