Lara picked for ‘Friday Lime’
“LARAMANIA” which has overtaken the Caribbean since Brian Lara amassed a world record 400 not out against England in the final Test in Antigua last week, will be experienced at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, at the Arima Race Club’s Friday “Evening Lime.” “The Lime” which has proven to be successful since it was first introduced two seasons ago, will be the second to be staged this year, following on the heels of the Carnival Friday Lime. Nine exciting and competitive races are carded, including the feature event, aptly named the Brian Lara Starter Allowance over 1725 metres on the turf. Members of both the English and West Indies cricket teams have been invited to come out and lime.
Also being arranged is a “meet the players” session when patrons can interact with their favourite cricketers and get their autographs. The ARC will also have a lucky losers competition between races. Prizes include authographed cricket bats courtesy Kenny’s Sports Centre and Carib hampers. ARC’s new public relations and marketing administrator Hayden Huggins believes Friday’s promotion will be a major success. There will also be a popular DJ to set a festive mood for an enjoyable evening. Carib will have bar specials throughout the day, and the Carib Girls will be present to add to the excitement of the race programme.
“To have Brian Lara in our midst and away from his busy schedule will help to make the lime big,” Huggins said. “The Lime provides an ideal opportunity to relax and relieve the stress and strain of yet another hard week’s work, placing one in the right frame of mind for the weekend ahead.” Both the English visitors and West Indies cricketers will be here to play two One Day Internationals at the Queen’s Park Oval on Saturday and Sunday.
