Lawson gets green light for WI
ST JOHN’S: West Indies fast bowler Jermaine Lawson has been given the green light to return to international cricket after the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) ruled his bowling action legal. The 22-year-old Lawson has been sidelined for the past year, after he was reported to the International Cricket Council (ICC) over his bowling action and also battled back problems in the interim. “The Bowling Review Committee of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has found that fast bowler Jermaine Lawson is now within the legal limits established by the International Cricket Council (ICC),” the WICB stated in a release yesterday.
“Following that finding, the WICB is pleased to announce that Lawson is available for selection to all West Indies representative teams, the release stated. The Review Committee had evaluated Lawson’s action as well as examined video analysis conducted during the match between the University of the West Indies Vice Chancellor’s XI and the England team now touring the West Indies. The committee advised that Lawson could once more take his place in regional cricket.
The WICB, in commending the work done by the Cricket Development Unit, their coaches, trainers and the other personnel involved in Lawson’s remediation, praised highly the effort and commitment demonstrated by Lawson, which the board said augured well for his continued development and contribution to West Indies cricket. Before his problems last year, Lawson had taken 29 wickets in a seven-match Test career, highlighted by a personal-best seven for 78 against Australia in the Fourth Test against Australia in Antigua last year.
