Corneal heads Caribbean All Stars
TRINIDADIAN FIFA instructor Alvin Corneal has been appointed technical director of a Caribbean All Star football team to oppose Morocco in Grenada on May 2, to mark the start of this year’s CONCACAF Congress. Former South African President Nelson Mandela, Grenada Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell, FIFA president Joseph Sepp Blatter, FIFA vice-president and CONCACAF boss Jack Austin Warner, senior Caribbean Football Union vice-president Capt Horace Burrell and CEO of Digicel Seamus Lynch, are all expected to attend.
The Caribbean All Stars will include top players from Jamaica, St Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, St Kitts/Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago. Morocco are using the match to launch the promotion of their bid to host FIFAWorld Cup 2010, This game is being sponsored by Digicel and will be televised throughout the region.
Horace Reid, executive director of CFU Marketing Division has been appointed general coordinator for the event. FIFA boss Blatter is expected to kick off the match which is expected to attract several top football dignitaries. Before the game the 2004/2005 Caribbean Cup which is also being sponsored by Digicel will be launched. The Caribbean All-Star squad will be announced shortly. Last year, Trinidad and Tobago visited Morocco and were beaten 3-0 in Casablanca.
