Tobago needs public golf course
THE EDITOR: I was interested to read an article in the Newsday on April 18, “Talk Tourism not what the sector need,” in which a recent interview with Mr John Bell, an expert on Caribbean Tourism was mentioned. He gave a lot of interesting information and it brought home to me how important golf courses are for the tourist sector.
I would like to recommend that the Tobago House of Assembly complete the golf course at the Grand Courland Estate which the former land owner had planned to build. However open it as a public golf course for the citizens who live in Tobago. Golf is growing in Trinidad by leaps and bounds since the Chaguaramas Public Golf Course was started.
I feel confident that because of the junior golfers programme that is now in place we will soon be seeing more golfers playing on the US PGA pro-circuit winning fabulous monetary prizes that the game of golf has to offer on the US professional circuit. A public golf course in Tobago will help the country’s tourism. It will give exercise, enjoyment and possible monetary gain for those who live in Tobago when their junior golfers programme gets going and then their golfers will be off playing on the US PGA pro-circuit making millions of US dollars.
