Cricket reporter’s car stolen

THE CAR belonging to Newsday cricket reporter Vinode Mamchan was stolen on Sunday while he was at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain. Mamchan of Ste Madeleine had earlier parked his white Mazda 323 Familia on Flood Street and proceeded to the Gerry Gomez Media Centre to report on the third One-Day International cricket match between the West Indies and England.

However after the umpires made an inspection of the ground and ruled that no play was possible after heavy rain on Saturday and light showers on Sunday, Mamchan was shocked to discover his car missing on his return to Flood Street. He promptly made a report to the St Clair Police Station and contacted his insurance company.

Yesterday, a worried Mamchan said he was told by police that the chance of retrieving his motor car PBO 7490 was virtually nil. “They said that in most of these cases the car is found burnt and stripped in some isolated area,” Mamchan said. He said that he is seriously inconvenienced by the loss of his motorcar as it was his sole means of transportation for going on work assignments Mamchan is hoping that someone spots the vehicle and reports it to the nearest police station or contact him at Newsday at telephone number 623-4929.
