Mohammed girls in women’s cricket squad
After an absence of 24 years, Barbados will take part in the 2004 West Indies Women’s cricket tournament, which will be hosted by Trinidad and Tobago from May 2 -17. Matches will be played at venues throughout Trinidad. TT, with West Indies captain Stephanie Power at the helm, will be defending both the league and knockout titles. The other countries taking part in this year’s tournament are Jamaica, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana, and Grenada.
The tournament attracts added significance this year because at the end of the championship, regional selectors will pick the West Indies training squad for the World Cup in South Africa next year. TT’s 18-member squad is presently in training under the direction of coach Jasmine Sammy and trainer Neil Lashley. For the first time ever, twins are included in the squad, Anisa and Alisa Mohammed. There are four newcomers, all schoolgirls in the TT training squad — Alisa Mohammed, Devika Singh, Marissa Aguilera and 13-year-old Gaytree Seetahal.
The TT squad will enter a live-in camp at the Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Development Centre in Balmain, Couva today. Training squad: Stephanie Power (captain), Nelly Williams, Anisa Mohammed, Nita Naipaulsingh, Kirbyina Alexander, Jade Chadee, Felicia Cummings, Devika Singh, Roxanne Toussaint, Envis Williams, Erica George, Shane De Silva, Sharon Wharton, Lee Ann Kirby, Brenda Solozano-Rodney, Alisa Mohammed, Marissa Aguilera, Gaytree Seetahal.
