Daredevil Hero goes after ‘double’

Arima Race Club Cup Handicap winner Daredevil Hero goes after a quick double in the Mentone Stakes at Santa Rosa Park, Arima on Saturday. The Glenn Mendez-trained three-year-old son of Devil His Due/Justified, who posted a record breaking performance over 1,800 metres trip on April 12 is among a small field of five imported three-year-old runners vying for $50,000 in purses in the 1,750 metres contest. Opposing the front-runner in the staying event are Fantastic Story, Gray Warrior, Fabulous Risk and Sky Storm Rising. The contest is one of two supporting highlights on the Arima Race Club 10-race programme.

Ibis Stakes winner French Academy, and her runners-up Private Affair, Melanie My Love and Yashoda will again be in the limelight on Saturday. The quartet to have banked the top spoils in the 1,350 metres event earlier this month is among a list of 11-fillies to have stood their ground for the Gleneagle Stakes feature. The event over 1800-metres contest has a $60,000 purse string and could throw light on the classics, since it will be their first try around two turns this season. The Handicap I and Lower fray is the other event of interest. The 1,300 metres contest has a small but selective field of six top sprinters.
