Connection Under-20s win second straight

W CONNECTION won their second successive match, in the Under-20 Division of the TT Pro League on Thursday. At the Palo Seco Recreation Ground, the defending U-20 champs edged hosts South West Drillers 1-0 courtesy of an own goal by former national Under-17 defender Shevhon Abraham in the 67th minute. But Arima/Morvant Fire climbed to the top of the standings, on goal difference, after a comfortable 2-0 win over Defence Force at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

Early goals from Devon Modeste, in the 15th minute, and Leon Cox three minutes later, were enough to give Fire full points against the Army-Coast Guard combination. Also in winners’ row on Thursday were CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, who staged a come-from-behind 3-2 triumph over Tobago United at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet. Nyron Orr put the Tobagonians in front after 17 minutes before Christopher Sam, brother of national striker Hector Sam, equalising one minute into the second half. Former TT youth team striker Jerol Forbes put Jabloteh in front in the 70th but Tobago Utd’s Noel Williams levelled the scores for the hosts ten minutes later. But Jabloteh will secure the victory when Andre Alexis scored the winner in the 87th.

And, in the day’s other encounter, North East Stars and Starworld Strikers battled to a 1-1 stalemate at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, Arima. Starworld went ahead in the 43th through a Derron Matthews strike before Devon King equalised for North East in the 50th. Meanwhile three double-headers, in the U-14 and U-16 Divisions, are scheduled from 8.30 am today. The Connection squad will travel to the Larry Gomes Stadium to oppose Arima, Defence Force will host South West Drillers at the Hasely Crawford Stadium and, at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground, North East Stars will face off against Jabloteh.
