Do we imitate Mandela?

THE EDITOR: The recent visit to Trinidad by His Excellency Nelson Mandela is indeed a momentous occasion. But at the rick of incurring the ire of some, I ask the question: What good would the visit have served if after seeing this great man, listening to his wisdom and even sharing a meal with him we return to the rituals associated with the ethnocentric extremists among us?

Nelson Mandela, like Ghandi and others of that ilk before him, possess a clear understanding of the universal fact that the key to good living is a good relationship with God and one’s fellowman. These are the eternal things that we leave this world with and determine where we spend the rest of eternity.
