Leaders W-Connection held to PFL draw

Former champions W-Connection were held to a draw when the Professional Football League (PFL) championship continued on Monday evening. In dropping their first points of the season, W-Connection finished 1-1 with Morvant/Arima Fire at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar. In the evening’s other match, Defence Force drew 0-0 with South West Drillers. In Arima, W-Connection, the 2001 and 2002 PFL champions, quickly asserted themselves when Jason Marcano netted — his first goal of the season — in the fifth minute.

But they were unable to consolidate their position and conceded an 80th minute goal when Shawn James collected a pass from Conrad Smith and slotted past the W-Connection goalkeeper Alejandro Figueroa. At the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, Defence Force gave up a great chance to the lead in the PFL standings when they failed to score against little-rated South West Drillers. The soldiers, who had posted handsome 3-0 wins over Morvant/Arima Fire and Tobago United, in their earlier matches, shared the points with the Drillers, who were avoiding defeat for the first time this season. W-Connection and Defence Force share the lead with seven points from three matches, one ahead of champions San Juan Jabloteh, who have played a match less.
