Connection stays top in Pro League
W CONNECTION stayed atop the standings in the 2004 T&T Pro League after a comfortable 3-1 win over Tobago United at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva on Wednesday. But defending champs CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh lost their first game of the season, edged 1-0 by Arima/Morvant Fire at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. The Tobagonians gave Connection a scare when Michael Bailey scored after 16 minutes, but left-back Jose Luis Seabra levelled the scores in the 31st.
St Lucian striker Titus Elva put Connection in front in the 57th minute before Seabra put the game beyond doubt with his second in the 64th. Fire’s goal in the 17th came against the run of play, with Jabloteh’s defender Nigel Daniel sending a clearance straight to Romauld Aguillera on the edge of the 18-yard-box. Aguillera’s left-footed blast cannoned against the bar but, with goalkeeper Daurance Williams stranded, midfielder Densil Theobald was on hand to tap home the rebound. Jabloteh tried hard without any luck, with striker Otis Seaton (Aurtis Whitley) sending a 20-metre left-footed drive over bar in the 45th while an Angus Eve header, from a Kerry Baptiste 49th minute corner, was cleared off the line by defender Anthony Haynes.
Starworld Strikers moved to second on the table after a 1-0 triumph over Defence Force at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, with Sean Julien netting the winner in the 53rd. And North East Stars jumped to third spot after a 2-1 win over South West Drillers at the Palo Seco Recreation Grounds. National striker Jerren Nixon scored both goals for North East in the 14th and 16th minutes. Wendell Joseph got the lone strike for Drillers in the 49th.
