Fund-raiser today for talented cyclist
CHRISTOPHER SELLIER has the potential to become Trinidad and Tobago’s next world-rated cyclist. Making this pronouncement is Sellier’s coach Gene Samuel, well-known as “Geronimo,” who placed fourth in the kilometre time trial at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. The 2002 and 2003 Junior Kilometre National champ has also been selected by the Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Federation to wear the “red, white and black” at the Junior Pan Am Cycling Championships in Ecuador from May 30 to June 6 as well as the World Junior Championships in Los Angeles in September.
The 18-year-old’s talents have not gone unnoticed as a group of his enthusiastic fans will be staging a fund-raising barbeque today from noon until 3 pm at the National Shoe Compound, Eastern Main Road, Arouca. Persons will have a choice of chicken or fish in their meals at the cost of $20 per box. The fans, who call themselves the “Friends of Christopher,” include his father Anthony, a participant in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada, Lois Sprang, Wendy Bellamy and Mike Francis William. According to the group, donations can also be made to Sellier to assist him with his training and travel expenses. For more information, call 646-9215.
