Husbands and Jones win at Woodbine

TORONTO: Barbadian jockeys Patrick Husbands and Jono Jones kept up appearances with victories at the Woodbine racetrack on Thursday. Jones landed the second race on 28-5 chance Lucky Creation and Husbands scored in Race 8 aboard 13-4 chance Financingavailable. Jones is third in the jockeys championship with seven wins behind David Clark and James McAleney on 11 wins apiece. Husbands is tied for fifth with five wins.

Jones broke alertly on Lucky Creation and sprinted clear, but was under pressure through the turn. The former Barbados champion jockey coaxed the colt and he widened the lead when asked in the stretch to post a 4-1/4 lengths, pillar-to-post victory in a time of one minute, 05.07 seconds. Husbands and Financing available vied between horses on the backstretch and turn, before inheriting the rail in the homestretch and outduelled Chilham Castle with McAleney aboard to win by a nose in 1 min, 05.07 secs.
