Alternate housing needed for squatters

THE EDITOR: The savage demolition of squatters’ homes is a gross reflection on the level of stupidity, obtaining of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, and the uncaring attitude most parliamentarians exhibit, when elected to Government. hile I do not condone squatting, it must be admitted that squatting reflects the failure of Government in the area of proving shelter in a  meaningful way.

Why can’t the government, whose ministers jaunt all over the world at our expense, learn from other countries like the UK, where tempory accommodation in the form of caravans, are provided for squatters, and have them re-located to these caravan sites while awaiting allocation of lots and/or houses. t is very simple to convert hundreds of containers, (40ft) into two bedroom homes, and use them as decanting centres, in a humane and logical method of getting rid of squatting. If any members  of government have the capacity to think, please get rid of squatting, but in a way that you can proudly say “we care.”
