Angostura Sail Week begins today
FORTY-ONE boats will set sail from 10 am today when the 22nd annual Angostura Tobago Sail Week begins at Store Bay, Tobago. The week-long event was officially launched at the Crown Point Beach Hotel last night with all the sailors confident of their chances to prevail in the racing, charter, cruising/comfort cruising and cruiser-racer categories. Today’s race will be sponsored by the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Department of Tourism with the weather expected to be warm and windy, conducive to good sailing on the opening day.
THA Chief Secretary Orville London, speaking at last night’s launch, encouraged the Trinidad and Tobago Sailing Association (TTSA) to attract a number of young sailors to the fold to maintain the high standard of the regatta. London promised continued support by the THA in the venture and also urged the participants to strive for excellence during the competition. Neil Wilson, THA’s secretary for Tourism, Transport, Enterprise Development and Settlement officially declared the event open while TTSA president Michael Rostant, Regatta Promoters Limited director Kevin Kenny and THA fisheries officer Erol Carter also spoke at the ceremony.
