Immigrants should respect our laws

THE EDITOR: I am a hard working woman who has educated her children and made my life comfortable without asking anyone for any handouts. Thirty five years ago I started out working for $30 a week as a cleaner. In no time I was promoted because of my sincerity and my good attitude. Today I am proud to say that I have educated my children and fulfilled my role as a Mother.

I have explained these facts about my life so that I can comment on the unwillingness of others to do things for themselves without always breaking rules and asking for Government’s assistance. The case in point which really bothers me is the large number of Guyanese people who are selling on our streets and creating congestion and confusion in Port-of-Spain and elsewhere. We could never go to Guyana and oppose their government by breaking the rules there. Why should we stand idly by while Guyanese people are opposing our Mayor. Progress will only come when we realise that people can find work if they want it and when we finally accept that the Guyanese opposition to our Mayor is setting a bad example to our citizens. I hope that somebody will finally do something about this situation once and for all.
