TT’s disgusting murder rate

THE EDITOR: Ever so often when viewing the television news the very first thing one can hear is...”Top of the news — “man gunned-down in Morvant, security guard shot dead, two killed in police shootout, gas station manager killed in robbery bid.” The list goes on and on. As a citizen born and living in Trinidad and Tobago, I’m very emotionally touched by the alarming crime situation. Our country population is approximately 1.5 million.

There’s at least one murder every 24 hours. For the year so far there have been 85 murders and counting. My sympathy and condolences goes out to the families of the murdered victims. Last year there were more than 300 murders. Most of the murders committed are drug related. A very close female friend of mine who lives in London, England, but was born in Jamaica with “one of her parents from Trinidad,” phoned me the other day. While in conversation she asked the question... why are there so many gruesome murders in Trinidad, the birthplace of her dad? I was muted. She frequently logs unto the website. In my humble opinion, we all need to turn to the good Lord. More vehicles for the police, housing and employment for all, resumption of hangings, even a change of Government won’t help.
