Bharat collects CariFin prize for second consecutive year

Joel Bharat of First Citizens Bank will claim the CariFin Challenge Trophy and the $1,500 winner’s prize for the second consecutive year at the event’s 13th annual prize distribution ceremony today. Bharat’s latest triumph in the 7.5km race came in a time of 24.06 and he is two adrift of Lander Rodney and Curtis Cox who have both won it a record four times each. FCB’s Davie Lallasingh helped complete the one-two for their institution with a 24.06 time for first place in the women’s category.


She will also receive a challenge trophy and $1,500. This year Lallasingh gave an improved performance on her 29.42 fourth place finish of the previous year. Cantius Thomas of National Flour Mills took the Open Event in a time of 16.41 while Fidelya Ramirez of Athletic Central was the winner among the women in a time of 21.29. Another new feature of the Family Day was the Ms CariFin pageant which was won by Mumtaz Ali of Republic Bank. Vanessa Lee Foon, Ms CLICO placed second with Ms Central Bank, Teresa Fergun, third. Ms Rhand, Anjanie Dhanrajsingh was fourth.


The top ten finishers, male and female, in the main category; the age-groups; the walking event; and the top three in the kids open; and age group categories will all be rewarded for their performances today. Chief Executive Officer of FCB, Larry Howai, is expected to deliver the feature address at the function at the Eric Williams Financial Complex in Port-of-Spain from 5.30 pm.
