Father charged with burning son
A La Horquetta father of three will appear before an Arima magistrate today to answer charges of grievous bodily harm. The 28-year-old man was charged on Thursday night after it was reported that he burnt one of his children with an iron. According to reports, the man left his three children at home with their mother who was visiting at the time. On his return, the man saw his four-year-old child with a burn on his hand. Reports state that the father questioned the burn on the child’s hand and his eight-year-old son admitted to accidentally burning his brother with the iron.
Police reports state that the man became so infuriated that he plugged the electrical iron back on, waited until it was hot and then, as a form of discipline, burnt the older child on his hand. The father, according to reports, told the child he burnt him because he had burnt the younger child. La Horquetta police were summoned and arrested the father of the children, and rushed the burnt child to the Arima Health Facility, where he was treated and discharged. The father of the children was later charged for the offence by Constable Harper of the La Horquetta Police Station. Constable Geoffrey Small is investigating.
