THE EDITOR: Historic visit indeed! 41 years ago if one had said that Mr Nelson Mandela would visit Trinidad, that would have been difficult to believe, and as well as his courageous words that one day he would see light at the end of the tunnel. Mandela and Sisulu, one of his best disciples and others were sentenced to life imprisonment, but continued the fight to end apartheid. The white regime made the laws more draconian, the act allowed police to detain suspects for 90 days without charge or access to legal advice. Suspects could be rearrested and detained for a further 90 days.
