Petrotrin Stars defend squash title
PETROTRIN STARS will begin defence of their national title when the Trinidad and Tobago Squash Association season opens today.
The “Oilmen” will travel to Cascadia Hotel to take on Klub Squash, while last year’s runners-up QPCC Old Navy meet QPCC Hard Core at the Queen’s Park Oval. Both matches begin at 6.30 pm. Action in this year’s series will again be in three divisions — “A”, “B” and “C”, with 16 teams and 130 players eligible.
Top national senior and junior players including Paul J de Verteuil, Dirk Prudent, Richard Hart, John Holley, Colin Ramasra and Ryan Abraham who are due back from studies abroad will be in the fray. And ex-national queen Rhea Khan (Petrotrin), Michele Cornilliac and Nicole Lawrence (Sinkla Shredders) are also down to play in the tournament. This year’s tournament will see players working hard to address the national selectors to make it on the Trinidad and Tobago team for the bi-annual Southern Caribbean Championships in Guyana in August. And the juniors will be vying for places on the national squad for their championships in Cayman Islands in July.
