Simple Youths clinch NSL windball opener

This season’s Nationwide Sports League (NSL) windball cricket championships bowled off at the NSL Park in Marabella on Sunday. The tournament sponsored by Radio 90.5FM to the tune of over $250,000 looks set to attract the largest number of clubs in the league being run by the NSL for the last five years. League officials said that Tobago teams will be included for the first time and they will be over in the Sister Isle this weekend to speak to teams for the series starting there on June 6.

Having gained the reputation and record for offering the biggest and most lucrative prize money in the history of the sport the NSL launched their South/Central Zone on Sunday in Marabella with a parade of teams and a three overs tournament. Simple Youths of Union Road emerged champions in the three overs, while the march past parade was won by Demolition of Siparia. The North/East Zone was also launched over the weekend at the National Hockey Centre in Tacarigua with national women’s champions Desert United winning the knockout crown. In the Men’s section Five River Artilleros of Arouca came out on top. Over 120 teams are carded to compete this season and teams still wishing to play can contact the NSL Head office at 658-3503.
