South African jockeys heavily booked

South African jockeys Donovan Yeo and Julian Gadsby will pilot 11 runners on the Arima Race Club Day 15 card at Santa Rosa Park, Arima on Arrival Day on Monday (May 30). The duo, who besides their hometown, have plied their trade in Australia, New Zealand, England and Barbados were both booked to ride in the Union Park Turf Club Guineas, the main event on the 11-race card honouring legendary trainer Eric “Colt” Durant. The supporting highlight is the Memorial Handicap named after the Barbados-born trainer. The remaining events are tagged after some of the stars he conditioned to win the Guineas in the 50 odd years he served the sport. Gadsby, who flew in from Barbados on Tuesday, ahead of his countryman, had a feel of the sand course yesterday. He is slated for five rides, while Yeo, who is expected in today will be aboard six.

Gadsby has 84 wins to his name and will have the leg up on Second Chances in the 1800 metres feature representing the first leg of the triple crown. The 25-year-old will also have the leg up on First Time, 2-Sharp, Bajan Connection and Kent’s Delight. Yeo, who had a two-year stint in the England after campaigning at home for ten years will sit aboard Flying Eagle in the day’s feature. The 26-year-old, tipping the scale at 52 kilos and with 120 victories on his resume will also compete aboard Royal Red,  Big Game Hunter, Storming Wind, Balthazar and City Of Lights. Barbadian jockey Anderson Trotman will also be part of the action on Arrival Day. Trotman rode here previously and was also heavily booked on the holiday card. He will have the leg up on Punto A Punto, Evil Kneevle, Wild Life, and Fromnowuntil. He will then partner the Barbadian bred Bandikoot in the Guineas and close  off his campaign on City Of Lights in the Optional Claiming event named after King Sailor.
