Sita ram to everyone

THE EDITOR: Indian Arrival Day celebrations commence with a public holiday for all  citizens living under the umbrella of our rainbow country. This is surely an auspicious day in the life of all Trinbagonians. Indian Arrival Day commemorates the great contribution of all those who came to our shores 159 years ago, those great heroes who brought with them their culture and the various artifacts used around the world today. Our forefathers worked from sun-up to sun-down in the sugarcane fields, working the soil for the benefit of all. But more important, in my view, they brought with them their way of life.

A life of peace, love, warmth and total humility. They taught this way of life to their children, neighbours, teachers and allowed the community to function as one unit and not as isolated units and structures. Their way of life has stood the test of time and today I am proud to see the upliftment of the many spiritual foundations in our country. It is only through a strong foundation, especially through the medium of spirituality, one is able to understand oneself thereby vision steps in, then mission and as a  result, some of the most disciplined people in the world today are those who benefited from the efforts and strengths of our forefathers, for they have taught me to say Sita Ram to each and every one of you today, inspite of colour, creed or race for when I look around at my fellow Trinbagonians I can surely say that I can see God in each and every one of you.
