Laventille Games 5K Sunday
This year’s Laventille Games continue on Sunday (June 6) with the staging of the Angostura sponsored 5K Road Race at 6.30 am. The race starts at Piccadilly Greens, Port-of Spain then proceeds along the Eastern Main Road to the Laventille Community Complex, Laventille. Cash prizes valued at $3,500, $2,000, $1,000 and $500 are at stake for the top three places overall in a race open to runners in four categories —-11-16 years, 17-39, 40-55 and 56 and over. There are also trophies and medals for teams and clubs, filling the top three places. Conceptualised and implemented by the Board of the Laventille Community Complex, the Angostura 5k caters to long distance runners.
Registration closes at 6.15 am on the morning of the event. The first 100 persons to register for this event will receive free Angostura 5K T-shirts. The marathon forms part of the second annual games, which commenced on Sunday, May 16, and ends on Sunday, June 13. Venue for the games is the Laventille Community Complex Grounds, Laventille, where netball and football fixtures have been played. In total Angostura has pumped an estimated $10,000 into the games toward its staging. Giselle Laronde West, manager of Corporate Communications at Angostura said the company was happy to be part of the effort of the people of Laventille and continues to support the various organisations in the area as much as it could annually, in many different ways.
