No statistics on abortion
THE EDITOR: David D K Soo-marie of Aspire in Newsday 19/05/04 wrongly alleges that an estimated 10,000 women’s lives are endangered in one year, while ASPIRE declares 4,000 women seek abortions annually on their website. What is really the truth? The Laws of Trinidad and Tobago make the procurement of miscarriage a criminal offence punishable by four years imprisonment. There are no statistics of the number of abortions in one year from the CSO. Therefore, figures are fictitious and plucked from the air and mere wild exaggerations.
Let’s face facts — the moral gravity of procured abortion is that we are dealing with murder. The one eliminated is a human being at the very beginning of life; a weak defenceless baby. I urge all persons to consider that the root problem that must urgently be addressed is the responsibility of men and women in their sexuality and the price that women and children have to pay in consequence, particularly through abortion. Save the children of the nation!
