Qualities of a good teacher

THE EDITOR: I have just finished reading the letter headed “Teachers, what do you believe?” written by Colvin Blaize, of Port-of-Spain, published in the Newsday on May 18, 2004 and I am compelled to write. Congratulations Mr Blaize. It was an excellent letter and I support your theory 100 percent. Your ‘qualities of a good teacher’ should be applied to every institution dealing with the development and education of our young people.

It is detrimental to do otherwise. The lives of our youth are at stake. I urge all employers, educators, and administrators of schools, institutions and programmes to use these criteria for anyone desiring to teach, supervise or instruct, in any way the children and youth of our nation. Thank you for projecting and articulating my own beliefs so very well.
