Tobago eager for Yorke return

TOBAGO football fans are hoping to see Dwight Yorke in the Trinidad and Tobago team for their international friendly against Northern Ireland at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet. When the Trinidad and Tobago team arrived at Crown Point Airport yesterday, the question was asked of national coach Bertille St Clair, a Tobagonian, and Yorke’s mentor. Yorke who was recruited by Aston Villa, then joined Manchester United for a ?12.6 million transfer fee, and later transferred to Blackburn Rovers, was in the national team’s locker room in Edinburgh, Scotland, and expressed an interest in training with the squad ahead of the Northern Ireland match.

Yorke quit the national team several years ago following a dispute with then coach. The feeling is that Sunday would be the perfect opportunity for Yorke to make his return to the team and international football at the venue named in his honour. St Clair was hopeful Yorke would return to international football saying: “He  (Yorke) said he was going to come to Tobago and once he appears at the session then we will discuss the matter again.” Meanwhile, the Tobago House of Assembly arranged with the national coaching panel, for a coaching clinic for youngsters from various schools throughout the sister isle at Shaw Park tomorrow afternoon from 4 pm.
