Richie Richardson ‘Most Valuable Player’ for South East
Richie Richardson was voted the “Most Valuable Player” for South East Zone at the 2004 British Gas Under-17 cricket series awards function at the Oval on Friday. Richardson, a consistent right handed all-rounder was instrumental in South East being very competitive in the tournament. He is son of former South East player Mervyn Richardson and proved quite a handful with his aggressive right-handed batting and steady medium pace bowling.
However stealing the show in the Under-17 tournament was North’s Kjorn Ottley who took his team to the title over pre-tournament favourites Central. Another bright prospect, Valmiki Deonarine from Munroe Road Cricket Club, was the star for Central with fine all-round displays.
In the Under-15 division the Nanan Division from Central repeated as champions with Josiah Jugmohan leading the way. For his efforts he was named “Most Valuable Player” for Central in the Under-15 bracket. All players were presented with cricket kits courtesy sponsors British Gas who hve been investing in Trinidad and Tobago’s cricket for the past five years.
