Helping people get into business
THE EDITOR: On Wednesday May 19, I attended a seminar organised by Atlantic LNG and the Point Fortin Chamber of Commerce on establishing a fund to help people get into business. I am 20 years old and I am interested in starting a small landscaping business. I have a hand-me-down lawn mower which my uncle gave me and I use it to do work at the homes of a few neighbours. I can get more jobs like that but I need better equipment. I was glad when I heard Atlantic’s representative, Ms Le Gendre, say that the company was prepared to put in at least $10 million to help people get into business.
It is especially difficult for young people like me who do not have security to get a loan from a bank. Mr Ken Gordon also explained that most of the new business which started off in Mayaro, under a similar scheme, cost only about $2,000 to set up. Sir, most of us young people do not need plenty money, all we need is a few thousand dollars to get our idea going. I would like to thank Atlantic and the Point Chamber President, Mr Murray, for coming up with such a wonderful idea. I am sure that hundreds of people in Point Fortin, especially young people like me, will benefit from this great plan.
