How about parallel parking?
THE EDITOR: It is very clear that the available parking spaces on most busy streets in Trinidad are not adequate. Some of these streets are very wide and reconfiguring then to accommodate “head first” parking would make available many more parking spaces that the current system of “parallel parking.” A case in point is the very busy Western Main Road through St James. Since most of the traffic appears to move from West to East, the Northern area of the street can be used for “head first” parking and the traffic flow diverted a little lower South, with no parking on the Southern side. Each car that is parallel parked, would provide two spaces with “head first” parking, hence doubling the amount of parking available. This and several other minimal cost measures can go a long way to alleviating the parking problems that we currently experience. Let us see some thought and creativity from our traffic planners.
