Man to stand trial for robbery
A 26-YEAR-OLD man charged with robbery with violence was yesterday committed to stand trial at the next sitting of the Assizes by a Chaguanas magistrate. Cori Bledman learnt of his fate yesterday before Senior Magistrate Nanette Forde-John in the Chaguanas First Court. Insp Ashton Clarke led the prosecution. The State is alleging that on November 25, 2003, Bledman, armed with a gun and cutlass, entered Limer’s Bar at Lalchan Trace, Peterfield in Chaguanas where the proprietor and customers were robbed.
The charge alleged customers were robbed of cash and cellular phones while the proprietor was robbed of a computer, equipment and cash. The proprietor was also allegedly struck in his face with a gunbutt. Bledman was arrested on the night of the incident and the indictable charge laid by PC Heeralal Singh. Three men who were involved in the alleged robbery have not been apprehended. In court, Bledman who was unrepresented, clai-med he was not in the area at the time of the incident. When the prosecution rested its case, however, the magistrate said she was not convinced by Bledman’s story, saying that the prosecution had proven its case.
