Questions on runway paving

THE EDITOR: The repaving of the Piarco Runway is causing great pain for travellers. There are constant delays in flights after 11 pm each night. I would like you to investigate this matter as this job was supposed to be completed in November 2003. I ask the following questions: Why was the job not completed on time? Is the contractor being charged Liquidated Damages for not completing the job on time as this is part of the contract whereby the Government is paid for every day the contract runs late? Are there any cost overruns on this project? What is the cause of the cost overruns if any? What is the new completion date? The Minister of Works and the Airports Authority should be asked these questions as this is causing the travelling public a great inconvenience especially as we enter our peak summer travel season.
