FCB Clarke Road win Fruta title
First Citizens Bank Clarke Road United defeated W-Connection Wanderers by six wickets to clinch the 2004 Fruta Twenty/20 cricket title at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Friday night. Batting first after being sent in, Wanderers were restricted to 105 for eight wickets in their 20 overs. William Perkins with 21 was the principle scorer as Wanderers found the bowling of former national player Mahadeo Bodoe too much to handle. The left arm orthodox spinner had the remarkable figures of three overs, one maiden, four runs, three wickets (3-1-4-3). Mahadeo Moonesar also got among the wickets with three for 24 and Sean Siloch returned two for 20.
Kenton Thompson with an unbeaten 39 then took Clarke Road to 106 for four and the trophy. He was named “Man of the Match” for this performance. Tishan Maraj also chipped in with 28 and he was voted “Player of the Series.” The most energised fielder on the night was Clarke Road’s wicketkeeper/batsman Gibran Mohammed, while the most energised player was Mahadeo Bodoe. This title is the second major one that Clarke Road have won during the season, the other being the prestigious Carib National League Division One title which they claimed two weeks ago. Wanderers on the other hand won the Carib National League Division Two title and the Carib Cup limited overs title.
President of Clarke Road Cricket Club Baldath Mahabir told Newsday after the match: “We are very happy with the victory and it shows what I have been saying all the while, that Clarke Road are playing consistent positive cricket at the moment. I must particularly congratulate the newcomers to the main team in Mahadeo Moonesar who has come of age, Avidesh Seetaram and Ranjiv Moonan.”
