Man on the run since 1997 — captured
A man who has been on the run since 1997 for crimes in the La Horquetta and Malabar area was finally captured on Saturday. According to reports, the man, 41, of no fixed place of abode was purchasing food from a food cart on Banyan Boulevard in Malabar around 10 pm, when he was spotted by a patrolling police vehicle. On seeing the vehicle, the wanted man bolted. The cops were in hot pursuit on foot. He was followed over a wall, through a police inspector’s house, over another wall, then through another resident’s house ending at Malabar Boulevard where he was finally caught.
A quick search of his person revealed an apparatus altered for the purpose of smoking. Police sources confirmed they have at least six warrants for his arrest for house-breaking and larceny, and he is a suspect in over 120 similar offences dating back as far as 1997. The arrested man, who is well known as a jewel thief, is to be interviewed by several officers who have since been transferred. Constable Yearwood and Bernard are investigating.
