Pt Fortin residents to be relocated

FOLLOWING the explosion of a gas turbine at Atlantic LNG Train III facility last Saturday, residents living close to the billion-dollar Point Fortin facility are being told they will be relocated to an NHA housing development project in the southern borough, away from the train by September. Point Fortin Mayor St Clair Natta disclosed this latest development while speaking to reporters during the first official visit of Local Government Minister Rennie Dumas to the Borough Corporation yesterday. According to reports, a gas turbine exploded at Atlantic LNG Train III at 3.15 pm last Saturday,  causing scores of workers to be evacuated from the plant. The explosion shook the ground and caused panic among residents nearby.

Although operations at both Trains I and II were not affected, residents living within the so-called “buffer zone” were calling for relocation of their homes, saying they were unable to sleep since the explosion, because they were afraid to do so. Questioned about the incident, Natta revealed 86 households were expected to be relocated to Southern Gardens at Warden Road in Point Fortin. He said the company recently completed a survey on the number of persons living in close proximity to the billion-dollar facility. “What the ALNG did was a survey of all the persons living in that area and they were going to provide accommodation no less than what is existing,” Mayor Natta said.
