Open letter to Trevor Oliver

THE EDITOR: Following is an open letter to Mr Trevor Oliver, President of TTUTA, which I would like you to kindly publish for me please. Dear Mr Oliver, your term of office along with the five other officers will come to an end in October this year. According to the constitution you and your officers will not be eligible to run for another term. Therefore it means that six new people will be elected to run the affairs of the Union. Already there is talk that the officers are planning to ensure that their ‘friends’ and those who are close to them will be elected to serve.

Mr Oliver, you know that the school system is in a serious state of affairs at this time and it will take very good leadership to address this situation. It is my humble view that the teachers who are always at the forefront whenever the union organises its ‘freecos’ in particular, are the ones who are making every effort to have you and your officers nominate them in order to be elected into office. Sir, there are many teachers in the profession who possess outstanding leadership qualities and simply because they do not belong to this ‘clique’ will be cast aside and not considered.

Mr Oliver, why can’t we forget the partisan politics and think of the nation’s children and as a result put together the best leaders we have amongst us in order to take us forward? I am a young teacher and I would like to make this profession my career and in order to do this I would like to have the best leadership possible to seek my interest. I earnestly look forward to see what will unfold.
