Malabar taxi driver beaten to death
A Malabar taxi driver was bludgeoned to death sometime between 6.30 pm and 9.30 pm on Thursday night. He was found yesterday morning with his legs tied together behind a pavilion at the Honeymoon Savannah in El Dorado, Tunapuna. According to reports, CEPEP workers at the Savannah stumbled on the semi-nude body at around 6.15 am yesterday. The body was identified as PH taxi driver Christopher Keer, 63, of Sandalwood Crescent in Malabar. DMO Dr Vinod Mahabir pronounced the father of two dead and ordered the body removed to the Forensic Sciences Centre for autopsy on Monday. Efforts to speak to his wife Victoria Lawrence, who was at the crime scene, were futile, but relative Janet Busby told Newsday, “Christopher is accustomed leaving home around 6.30 to work his car and returning around 9.30.
“When his wife did not see him return at 9.30, she became worried and contacted me. We made several reports to the Malabar, Arima and La Horquetta police stations. “We also called several friends and looked all night until we got the call this morning. “Our fears became reality when we came and saw that it was him. “Christopher never worried anyone. We want his killer or killers found and brought to justice.” Keer, a former NHA worker, retired two years ago and although he expressed concerns about his taxi work, he only worked certain hours because of fears of being hijacked or killed. Preliminary analysis shows that he was beaten in his head and stomach. Police believe he resisted, and was tied and beaten. Visiting the scene were ASPs Trim, Hills, Farrell, inspectors Abraham and Modeste, Sgt Hamilton, Karim, Daniel and Cpl Ashby.
