Suicide attempt after broken heart

HEARTBROKEN after hearing that his girlfriend’s parents arranged to have her married to someone else, a 25-year-old man attempted to end his life by ingesting a poisonous liquid. He is currently warded in critical condition at Ward 11 of the San Fernando General Hospital. Around 11 am on Friday, neighbours found the labourer unconscious and frothing at his Partap Trace, South Oropouche home. Police seized an empty bottle of weedicide next to his body.

Apparently the 25-year-old man and his 19-year-old Debe sweetheart got into a heated argument less than an hour before he drank the weedicide. Police investigations revealed the girl’s father did not approve of the couple’s year-long relationship and they were forced to sneak around to be together. Last Thursday the girl ran away from home and went to stay by her boyfriend. However her father eventually found her and took her back home. The girl’s father subsequently arranged for her to be married to someone else. Cpl Gangaram of the Oropouche Police is continuing investigations.
