Duncan new national 200m king

MARCUS DUNCAN of Silver Bullet dethroned 200 metres champ Jacey Harper on the second day of the two day Sagicor National Track and Field Championships at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday. And Wanda Hutson had to settled for second position, as Cayman Islands Cydonie Mothersill cruised home in the women 200. Harper started strongly and led for most of the race but Duncan pulled out all stops on the home stretch to win the event in a time of 20.91 with Julieon Raeburn of Phoenix second in 21.06 and Harper of Rebirth third in 21.13. Mothersill returned a 22.92 mark as she took the women 200 metres gold medal ahead of Hutson of Memphis second in a time of 23.65 and Daniella Vega was third returning a time of 24.02.

National Under-17 800 metres champ Jamal James paled among the seniors but his fifth place finish was full of character, Zenith’s Sheridan Kirk held off  Simeon Bovell to take the Men’s 800 metres event in a time of 1:50.75 with Bovell of Simplex second in 1:50.76 and Eagles’ Ezra Richards third in 1:51.14. Pilar Mc Shine, in a time of 4:41.18, led a Success Athletics sweep of the Women’s 1500 metres  event and was comfortably home ahead of Samantha Shukla in 5:03.80 and little sister Kema Mc Shine third in 5:07.05 to complete the rout. The elder Mc Shine won the 3000 metres women event in a time of 11:07.76 with Shukla second in 11:19.83 and Paula Jones of Memphis third in 11:41.58. Cleopatra Borel continued to stamp her superiority on the Women’s Shot Put and put Candice Scott of G.C. Striders into second with a 18.38 metre throw, Scott managed 16.49 metres for second and Burnley’s Annie Alexander with 14.65 metres.

Toco’s Mikel Courtney scored 13.83 metres to win the Mens Triple Jump, Le Juan Simon of Memphis was second and the unattached Ishmael O’Garro was third with 13.11 metres. The Trinidad and Tobago C.A.C Junior 4x100 metres relay team finished second to the senior 4x100 conglomerate who won in a time of 44.07 but recorded a time of 44.44 seconds a new junior record brining the crowd to its feet in the Women’s 4x100 relay event. The track meet’s final event, the Mens 4x400 metres, saw the Senior team, ranked 16th in the world, finish first in a time of 3:05.49, an effort that spoke of their desire to up their profile ahead of the Olympic Games in Athens Greece this August, the junior team was second in 3:12.002 and Zenith placed third in 3:21.40.
