Laventille taxi driver shot in botched robbery

A Laventille taxi driver was shot in a botched robbery and is now resting in a satisfactory condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Fitroy Fredrick, 40, of Africa in Laventille was plying his B12 motorcar between Port-of-Spain and Laventille when around 10 pm he picked up three men at the George Street, Port-of-Spain taxi stand.

On reaching Berlin (off Picton Street) one of the men placed a gun to his neck and announced a hold up. Fredrick fought off the men and attempted to escape through the window when he was shot twice in the neck. The men then fled. The injured man was rushed to the PoSGH where emergency surgery was performed. Visiting the scene were Sgt Fontinelier and PC Edwards. Sgt Fontinlier is continuing inquiries.
