Jailing of refugees

THE EDITOR: Why is it that whenever refugees arrive in our country they are immediately thrown in jail? The state of the world at present has made the problems of refugees a global one. These unfortunate people are human beings like ourselves and in many cases have had to abandon home, family and friends and run for their lives. To arrive in a land like ours where jail conditions are deplorable would probably make them wish they had stayed in their own country. There is therefore an urgent need for us to set up a place where refugees can be housed in a dignified manner. Let us not wait for Amnesty International to tell us that we are doing it all wrong.
