Pain from abortion is intense

THE EDITOR: It was not my personal agenda, but the words of Dr Gladys A Sweeney, Dean of the Institute for the Psychological Sciences in Arlington, Virginia who, on April 17, 2002, said: “We are a society wounded psychologically by the culture of death. Our women, in particular, reap disproportionate psychological injury and suffering as a result of health-related practices which are opposed to the culture of life.” My concern is that women should go through surgery, especially induced abortion, or take powerful drugs that induce abortion, and not be informed about potentially serious side effects. It is not my opinion, but medical fact, as reported in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, that 97 percent of women having abortions reported experiencing pain during the procedure, which more than a third described as “intense,” “severe,” or “very severe,” and that compared to other pains, the pain from abortion was more painful than a bone fracture, about the same as cancer pain, though not as painful as an amputation.

ASPIRE members says they are pro-life. Now, let us be honest.  ASPIRE is pro-death, for ASPIRE is pro-abortion — I haven’t heard them ask for anything else to relieve the pain of our women — nothing but the right to murder their children legally. Have you? The Pro Abortion Lobby has missed the boat, for in no way do they address the humanity of the baby, address the fact that by the time an abortion takes place, baby’s heart is beating, baby has identifiable arms and legs and displays measurable brain waves, and that within six weeks that baby’s face is recognisably human. These facts are found in the medical book, From Conception to Birth by Robert Rugh, PhD, and Landrum Shettles, MD PhD. The Pro Abortion Lobby has a problem with any medical opinion that doesn’t further ASPIRE’s, or their principal, the IPPF’s agenda. Why is it wrong to warn the women of Trinidad and Tobago of the harmful, and sometimes deadly effects of abortion? Why must we be silent and allow ASPIRE and the IPPF to lead us down the slippery slope that is abortion?

Why must we be silent and not state the fact that abortion is always the murder of a live human being? Abortion will not solve our nation’s problems. Abortion will not free our women from the guilt of having killed their own offspring. Abortion will not bring peace to our families or to our nation. In Hinduism’s sacred texts, the 10th volume of the ancient Rig Veda, the 162nd aphorism advocates the safety of pregnancy and strongly protests against abortion: “O! Pregnant women: Whichever monster approaches you with the evil intention to destroy your pregnancy/Whoever approaches your womb/Let fire destroy him ...” In the Islamic Code of Medical Ethics formulated by Professor Hassan Hathout of Kuwait University we read: “I swear by God the Almighty to regard God in carrying out my profession, to protect human life in all stages and under all circumstances, doing my utmost to rescue it from death, malady, pain and anxiety.” And to Christians, talk of “unwanted children” is bogus. Christ Himself said: “Whoever welcomes one of these little ones in My Name welcomes Me and anyone who welcomes Me welcomes not Me but the One who sent Me.” (Mk. 9:37)
