WI women star in Under-23 squad
West Indies women’s cricket team players Anisa Mohammed and Jade Chadee have been named on the Trinidad and Tobago Under-23 cricket team to participate in the regional tournament in St Vincent from July 15. Mohammed and Chadee were recently named on the West Indies cricket team to participate in the World Cup in South Africa next year. Trinidad and Tobago are the defending champs in the Under-23 tournament and will be led by 19-year-old Sihle Wilson who was vice-captain last year in St Lucia. The Trinidad and Tobago squad for this year’s tournament includes five newcomers and among them are Alisa Mohammed and 13-year-old medium pacer Gaitri Seetahal.
Last year’s captain Nelly Williams will not be in the team as she is presently playing County cricket with Lancashire Country Cricket Club in England. The team has been hard at practice under coach Margarie Thomas at the Riversdale Cricket Ground on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Board of Control (TTWCBC) official Ann Browne-John told Newsday yesterday that the team is progressing well and more than likely they will be going across to Tobago this weekend to play some warm-up matches.
TT team: Sihle Wilson (capt), Davie Lutchman, Marissa Aguilera, Kirbyina Alexander, Alisa Mohammed, Anisa Mohammed, Tasha Sooknanan, Jade Chadee, Michelle Borneo, Sharda Saroop, Lee Ann Kirby, Gaitri Seetahal, Devika Singh and Sarah Samaroo. Reserves: Alicia Villafana and Jerveen Pullucksingh. Coach: Margarie Thomas, manageress Debbie Ann LaMorrell, trainer Neil Lashley.
