Carlos injury more serious
TRINIDAD and Tobago midfielder Carlos Edwards may be out for up to seven months after further tests on his injured knee last Friday revealed that he will need to undergo surgery soon. Reports from England on Tuesday contradicted initial reports by doctors in the Dominican Republic who initially stated that he should recover in a month. Edwards learnt on Monday that he had in fact sustained medial ligament and cartilage damage and will now certainly miss the start of the English League One (formerly Division Two) season. Wrexham boss Denis Smith was obviously not pleased on hearing the news. “It’s probably the worse news we’ve had for a fairly long time,” said Smith.
The Wrexham medical staff insisted that Edwards go for further scans after fearing the injury could be worse when he returned to England.
Edwards was left devastated by the news as it could also see him missing the semi-final round of the 2006 World Cup qualifiers scheduled to kick off on August 18 away to St Vincent and the Grenadines. The news was also a blow to Wrexham who turned down a ?500,000 bid from Preston North End for Edwards last month and were still hopeful of letting him go at some point in an attempt to address their financial woes. “It’s the most horrible news I think any player can receive especially when you have a full season to look forward to,” Edwards said on Tuesday. “Right now it seems that I will need surgery and I can only hope for the best in seeing how quickly I can recover after that.”
